Effects of an Exercise Program on Morale and Sleep in Elderly Women

Abstract

|
Purpose: This study was done to examine the effects of an exercise program on morale and sleep for elderly
women.
Method: A quasi-experimental design with pretest and posttest measures was used. Subjects were 61(experimental:30, control:31) elderly women. The experimental group participated in a 8 week exercise program
twice a week. The data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0 program, which included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square test, and t-test.
Results : There was significant improvement in morale(t=2.59, p=.002) and sleep satisfaction(t=2.84, p=.001) in the
experimental group compared control group.
Conclusion : An exercise program improved morale and sleep satisfaction for elderly women. Therefore, it is recommended to apply the program as a nursing intervention for health in community.
